sunquest jazz air operate flights to the Caribbean
Jazz Air LP will operate flights to the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America on behalf of Sunquest Vacations under a new partnership with Thomas Cook Canada Inc., the companies announced Monday.
Sunquest Vacations is Thomas Cook's tour operator.
The agreement is effective November 1, 2010, to serve the winter vacation season of 2010/2011 and may extend for up to five years. Jazz will operate a fleet of up to 11 Boeing 757-200s from gateways across Canada and will be branded as Thomas Cook Airlines from January 2011.
The deal is made possible by the sudden closure of Skyservice, which had a long-standing charter agreement with Thomas Cook. Skyservice provided flights for Sunquest Vacations for 15 years before it shut down its operations last Wednesday. While Thomas Cook has currently partnered with WestJet Airlines to temporarily provide flights for Sunquest this summer, Jazz will become its main winter partner this year until 2012.
"Through the combined operational and financial strength of Thomas Cook and Jazz, we will offer Sunquest customers innovative and dependable vacation packages," Michael Friisdahl, CEO of Thomas Cook North America, said in a release.
The announcement comes less than a week after charter airline Skyservice filed for receivership. Sunquest Vacations had used the carrier for many of its destinations.
Jazz currently operates scheduled passenger services on behalf of Air Canada with about 800 departures per weekday to over 80 destinations in Canada and the U.S.
